Students can't sit in a chair and read or do packets ALL the time! So what can they do? By mixing English/Language Arts with other disciplines, students can use their creative side to LEARN. I will update this page as regularly as possible. In the mean time, here is an example of our latest project!
In our latest reading, Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, Brian is stranded in the Canadian Wilderness with nothing by a Hatchet his mother gave him as a gift. This hatchet would be Brian's "saving grace" as it helps him survive the wilderness. So we decided to bring Social Studies and Art into the classroom!
What could Brian have done to survive if he DIDN'T have his hatchet? What did Native American's use for tools to hunt, fish, make medicine, or sew clothes? My students not only researched, but created some VERY IMPRESSIVE stuff with clay to replicate what they found!

The 6th Graders are currently reading "The Thief of Always", about a young boy named Harvey. He is taken to a place of Illusions by promises of fun forever.... But there is price for everything. To show setting and theme, the students have created 2 posters of "The Holiday House" that are decorating the stairwell up to the second floor. Be sure to take a close look.... If you dare....
